What would happen if people can freely move, with no national borders to worry about?

Would this decrease environmental pressure, like a person from the mountainous countryside moving to a rich, coastal city seeking jobs and opportunities, instead of cutting down precious trees to make money? Certain locations appear to be rich in resource

Answers:

Human population would be at 12 billion by now and we'd be eating each other.

Everyone would move to Denmark.

That would be a disaster. Mitt Romney said it best: "culture makes all the difference".

The resource demand won't disappear simply by moving people. People don't live in remote areas and log because there is nothing else to do so much as they need to be in remote areas to log or mine or whatever. Someone will still have to do it.

Increased conflict---People from drastically different and/or "Inferior" cultures will not be able to get along in the "Mainstream" cultures of developed countries and become an UNDERCLASS. This underclass will become a burden to society in several ways---Increased crime, increased load on the welfare system and EXPLOITATION by both greedy employers and crooked politicians who will use them for more power and exploitation. -----The mainstream society will devolve, the quality of life will diminish and the world will eventually come under a "Socialist" DICTATORSHIP.----Not to mention the problems that come with that---more war, oppression and more extensive stress on the environment.---Dictators don't care about the environment---only power------Technology will progress will end (why do the work if one cannot profit from it?) and will degrade. Civilization will stagnate and corrode from within.--------------Until borders are re established and the spirits of self determination and national identity arise once more. Unfortunately, Millions will die before the lesson is learned.

you would think.
But people are creatures of habit and the concept of 'home' is deeply ingrained in us.
Plus the people who have the power over these area are often very against giving up their power over rich resources.

People moving from rural to urban areas has been going on for a long time, and accelerated sharply about 1900. But cities make huge demands on natural resources. The reason forests recovered in the US was because people stopped burning so much wood and switched to oil instead. Natural resources are unevenly distributed.
Eliminating national boundaries is a utopian dream. Doing it would cause chaos in many countries and ferocious mob violence.

"decreases conflict"
You don't know what you're talking about... do your own research before showing your political leaning. It would be a disaster... even emigration hurts the 3rd world now.
