Will Trump change the election laws so he will win in 2020?

Heard a nieghbour talk, and he said that Trump will win the 2020 and then go on to win a third term.

How can he go onto a third term when a president can only have 2 terms?

Answers:

Luckily he can't do that

As the President has been unable to pass any major legislation in his first year apart from his Tax Bill. With regard to major legislation he spent 2017 failing to repeal and replace Obamacare, even with a Republican majority in both houses.

Later this year there are the midterm elections when it is probable on Trumps current approval rating that this Republican majority will be diminished or eliminated, making it ever more difficult for the President to pass controversial policies. Which changing the election laws would most certainly be. As for serving a third term that would require a change to the US Constitution and a US president does not have the power to do.

A change in the Constitution requires an amendment being proposed either by the Congress with a two-thirds majority vote in both the House of Representatives and the Senate or by a constitutional convention called for by two-thirds of the State legislatures.

Your Conservative neighbour is similar to many Republicans who really have no idea how laws are made and changed, or how an amendment to the Constitution can be implemented.

It is wishful thinking and ironically claiming they want many of those actions they accused Obama of wanting to do, because he was a would be dictator.

This propaganda was all over the internet, infowars, repeated by Glen Beck, Alex Jones, Fox News and other right wing media. Once again it seems Trump supporters all suffer from short term memory loss.

Trump CANNOT change the elction laws. Only STATES can do that.

There's only been one president who has three terms in office and was elected to 4th term. That was Franklin Delano Roosevelt because the USA was at war with both Japan and Europe.. FDR died in office from a stroke in 1947. Truman become President. Truman was elected President in 1948. Eisenhower was elected t in 1952 and 1956..I am old enough to remember watching Ike on LIVE TV. JFK was elected Prescient in 1960. JFK was a assassinated on November 23, 1963, LBJ became president. He was president in 1964, but refused to run for second term in 1968 because he knew we could not win the Vietnam war. Nixon was elected president. There were riots at the 1968 Democratic convention..

Trump CANNOT change the election laws.. No matter WHAT people THINK he can do.

He won't even run in 2020. And considering his unhealthy diet I'd be surprised if he's even alive in 2024.

two possible outcomes - either he is convicted and hung for treason before 2020 , or he takes an unannounced trip to a non extradition country and stays for a long time

Technically, the constitution does not say that presidents have any limit to the amount of terms they serve. The two term limit was established by George Washington's "demonstration" of presidency. Because of people's high respect for him, presidents serve only two terms. However, if a president tried to serve a third term, it would not be unconstitutional, but would most likely not allowed by the people - who hold the true power in our country.
We The People
So, if he tries to run for a third time, and wins with flying colors and popularity from the whole country (very unlikely) - he could very well serve a third term.

- but probably not as this has never been done before and would most likely be looked down upon.

Your neighbor is nuts. Don't listen to him.

His role in changing the constitution would be very small. It’s difficult to change the constitution. The change has to be ratified by 3/4 of the states. Needless to say, no such thing is going to happen.

Not going to happen. People said the said thing about Obama which obviously didn't happen.

No. I hope to God he doesn't win in 2020. We really can't elect another weak candidate like Hillary. Has to have blue collar appeal.
