How do you know it's a yeast infection? Did take a swab examine in under the microscope and have the where with all to make a diagnosis as a vet could have?

You aren't suppose to treat or apply/give a dog anything, without vet recommendation and/or prescription, as you may exacerbate the issue, and make a proper diagnosis more difficult.

Contact your vet for advice, phone calls are free in most areas, however don't be surprised if you're asked to bring the dog in for a proper diagnosis.

With ear conditions, you need to have it confirmed - properly diagnosed - and the correct medication prescribed.

Out of date meds. lose their effectiveness for sure. And putting the wrong thing down the ears will only make a nice moist place for bacteria etc., to thrive.

Why did your vet sell you expired medication?

I didn't prescribe the ear drops, so I don't know what's in them.

I'd ask the Vet - they could be dangerous, they could be useless. I have no way of knowing.

It won't hurt but it might not help if it is out of date.

It could result in a worse infection over time. Old antibiotics become weak, meaning they don't kill off as many of the target yeasts as they are supposed to. Instead, they kill off only the weaker ones. The problem is that leaves the stronger ones. Since yeast reproduction is not strictly asexual (they do both), leaving the stronger ones to reproduce is effectively SELECTING for the most drug-resistant strains. You could end up with a very tough-to-cure infection. Far better to get a fresh bottle!

Phone your vet! Out of date meds have likely lost their effectiveness. Besides that, you need to use the correct prescription for the problem.
